Viva Columbo!

We didn't even reach the half-birthday of vacancy, since less than 6 months after the elections, this is it, yes really, crescent and cross my heart, p-tooey, my hand on my mustaches habibi, Lebanon has a Government!!! Really, I mean it. This ain't no joke, no April fool, there's no stale April fish hanging on your backs in this late month of November.
And you know the best thing? By all accounts, would you believe it, it's a good Government. Darnedly promising. National union, harmonious coexistence, Entente cordiale, competent person at the right place, and all that blah blah we used to get served in Civic Instruction. (Myself, I used to call these classes "mental retardation school screening tests".) For once, I think I'll try to believe in it, just for the sake of fun. That's telling you of the prevailing enthusiasm. PWNED not dead!
Truth be said, it seems the main political leaders have decided, rather than to bicker endlessly (5½ months, that's nothing) on the inserting of everyone's political buddies, boot-lickers and shoe shiners, to this one time change from the good old national traditions and instead think of building a genuine political project. Just in case there were still, who knows?, a slim chance of saving this titanic country. Let them try. After all...

Even my old blogging buddy Boutros Harb, got himself settled in an armchair all dripping with optimism (the armchair, I mean) and is pulling his sleeves up, at least that's what he promised us. Well, okay, he's "simply a Minister", not President of the Street Public, but this still gives him opportunities to save us all.
Even though his sagacity won't be put to work very much, for the solving of those infamous bombings: his job is at the Ministry of Employment. Ah, you didn't know? Then let me bring the news down on you: in Lebanon, bomber is still not acknowledged as an official profession. Therefore, it's not Boutros Columbo Harb who will be in charge of following the files of our folkloric pyrotechnicians.

So WHO will be in charge of these then? Well... frankly, I don't really know about that. Since 2005, the investigations haven't made much progress. In spite of the tireless scoops of Mohamed Zuheir Siddiq, our national Bollywood writer, a.k.a. Sulid Senayyek, who allegedly was going to hand us on a silver platter, all magnificiently tied up and spitting out their swift confessions, the assassins of Rafiq Hariri, of Gandhi, of John F. Kennedy and of Julius Caesar. As appetizers before the main course of the revelations feast. Rumour had it that he held exclusive information bits on the affairs of Ben Barka, Moussa Sadr, Cleopatra, Jesus of Nazareth and Abel Ben Adam. Another time, maybe...
In the meantime, Lebanon, for one, isn't assassinated yet. Ain't that awesome news?

So much, in fact, that I have a GRRRRRAND announcement to make for all my mates: if you were wanting, pondering, planning, desiring, wishing, considering to visit our magnificient scenic country, it's now or never. The security climate in the country has all of a sudden turned ideal, do enjoy the season. The holes in our roads are more beautiful than ever.
Well... perhaps after New Year's Eve. Because meanwhile, there will of course be the Christmas air travel crowd, that of the Hajj, and the H1N1 flu pandemic which the pilgrims will undoubtedly bring back to us, since we won't be receiving the vaccines until then. As a matter of fact, myself, right now, I'm a liDDle Bit unDer the weather. (Oink-oink?)
But this is all trifle. The Lebanese are optimistic, even myself, the skepticism fundamentalist. A good mood that will shine like a radiant sun for at least... oh, say, a good 3 months, before the return of the mandatory neurasthenia? I bet they'll take even longer than usual before they direly disappoint us, it looks so uniquely positive this time around. :-)
So, seize the opportunity. Visit Lebanon. It's smiles season, and they're ripe. Hurry and consume before they turn over-ripe and soft.

The only problem with Columbo, his speeches would go on forever. "Er, uh, just one more thing..."
