Ortograff?

State visit of Nicolas Sarkozy in Lebanon this Saturday. (And I had foretold it!)
On the 8 o'clock news, the anchorman carefully lists us the names of the people present... clearly written in arabic on his notes. Poorly written.
Prime Minister Fillon became "François Veillon". Ben voyons...
Ambassador Parant turned into "Paron". What would his parents say? And the way it was pronounced, he got very close to being made a "Baron".
Over here, Sir Baron. If Sir Baron would kindly oblige. After you, Sir Baron. Veillons au protocole, n'est-ce pas?

Also sprach Pascadamus
Ben voyons...
L'ambassadeur Parant devient "Paron".

I hear this guy's even shorter than Napoleon. Know the diff? Napoleon is only short by today's standards. 5'6" was average in Europe at that time!

Well, I heard that Napoleon was also markedly short by *his* days' standards. It would seem that being short may give some people a powerful incentive to become, erm, powerful. Something about the gaze of others.
Not that I cast any judgement based on people's height. Only on the altitude of their brains, and it's not proportionate to the length of their bodies. ;-P

Anyways, Napoleon had another incentive: trying to please his mediterranean mother! You think having an italian mamma is tough? Moms in Corsica are just as overbearing as in Sicily, there's no difference! Okay, except they have less mafia... :-)

I'd like to see Sarkozy criticized worldwide (and nationwide) a little LESS than Kim-Jong-Il. Every time some non-criminal becomes a mediatic scapegoat, I bizarrely start liking them. France is very fortunate that its latest President wasn't political airhead bimbo Ségolène Royal. At least Sarko knows politics. (Plus, in these times of world crisis, he's been steadily decreasing the national unemployment rate, for the first time in decades. Not bad for "Grumpy, husband of Snow White"!)

Anyways, one of the most sympathetic women I know is actress Mimie Mathy. She's 1m32, and plays a guardian angel in a very popular French series. Alas, she's already married. ;-)
Guess I'll have to settle for Miss Lebanon. (No fib, Miss 2006 and I were neighbors for years. Small country...)

From Wikipedia:

"British propaganda of the time depicted Napoleon as of smaller than average height and the image of him as a small man persists. However, the French inch of the time equalled 2.7 centimetres, whilst the Imperial inch is 2.54 centimeters.[106] According to contemporary sources, he grew to just under 1.7 m as an adult, around average height for a Frenchman at the time."

Wikipedia isn't where I originally read this, but until I find that source this will do.

Oh, that'll do just fine with me too. Have you checked the first item of my links list?
:-)

The wake of this british propaganda even infiltrating French culture over the later, anti-Napoleonian times is probably where I got my own, now standing corrected, infos.

But I still say Kim-Jong-Il is nuthin' but a nasty runt! Even by today's North Korean standards and probably wearing raised shoes, from what I can estimate on TV...

Speaking of names, do you know how many Koreans bear the name Kim, be it in the North or South? One third!
Beats any irony on islamic Muhammad/Mahmood/Ahmeds or the semi-universal latin Marias.

I've heard that average height for Korean males is 5'4" - but I have only heard that so it might be wrong.

I definitely agree with you when it comes to that sawed off little runt (ol' Kimmy).

Pascal [P-04referent] said...

Gee, do you think his... shotgun is sawed off too?
Nee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee! (Nerdy giggle at racy innuendo.)

I absolutely loved how they spoofed him in Team America : World Police. Sometimes, crude humour can be very enjoyable.
(And those two "man-eating black panthers"? One just like them shared my life at home for years. Rrrowwrrr!)

Well, Ron Jeremy is only 5'6"...

To preserve the sensitive feelings of my aunt Euphrasia [and her trust in my innocent purity], I'll claim that "I absolutely do not know this gentleman you are talking about". ;-)

Besides, honestly, I've never seen RJ. Only his name in my spam folder. I'm not totally ignorant of porn cerebrities though, since I know Jeff Stryker has starred in... "both styles" and even has his own, anatomically faithful, action figure doll.

I'm thinkink of some day posting something on Roco Siffredi's advertising career. I have a couple of funny photos about that.

I don't think I've ever actually seen one of his movies either. I actually know who is from interviews I've seen he's done, for both that documentary about him and his book (Ron Jeremy the Hardest (Working) Man in Hollywood). And also from an interview he gave prior to his talk at Oxford University. I also know who John Holmes is but I haven't seen any of his movies either.

Chuck Norris isn't hung like a horse. Horses are hung like Chuck Norris.

Hunh. So you too are a faithful fan of the Chuck Norris True Facts Page?

I love it how he roundhoused the Universe into being... :-)
BANG!

I think this must have been based on the whole Chuck Norris Facts thang. It might have worked better with him. Or maybe not.
